Resolutions

I’m not huge on new year’s resolutions — I know most of them are destined to fail. But I like seeing the new year as a time to refocus and reorganize, particularly because when I’ve done both, most of the things that people make resolutions about tend to fall into place for me (exercising, eating healthier, etc.).

I get much more zen when my surroundings are clean and straightened and exactly how I want them. So one of my goals is now to do some small things around the house that I’ve been putting off. And trying a few things out to see how they work.

First project: Declutter one counter while organizing another

While scanning Pinterest, I saw different kinds of wall racks for holding nail polish, which caught my eye because I just happened to get a bunch for my birthday and more nail-related things for Christmas. And I realized that I had a spice rack I got as a wedding gift 7 years ago, and many jars were still sitting in there nearly empty after all that time in addition to the whole cabinet shelf of spices we store.

So in about 3 minutes, it became this:

Maybe it’s not as perfectly beautiful as I imagined in my mind, but it’s not bad. (Clearly, it would benefit from me purchasing more nail polish!)

It also freed up a bit of space on my kitchen counter, which is another project I plan to tackle sometime soon.
