Restart day!

Ava calls my weights "strongs." As in, "Mom, can I use your strongs?" Funny how kids peg things right-on sometimes, right?

To all you who have already failed at your resolutions, never fear. I’m pretty sure today is a restart day, so just take things from here!

When I arrived at the gym this morning at about 5:30, the parking lot was fuller than I’d ever seen it. Inside, people were lugging and chugging it with all they had in them. And that certainly wasn’t the case last week. In fact, when I dragged the family there on New Year’s Day, we practically had the place to ourselves.

Mind you, I am not really a resolutioner myself. But I need to haul my butt back on track, so I’m jumping on.

I’d been taking a break from the gym since early November to allow the heel spur I’ve been battling all year to heal up. And while my plan worked — it really really worked! Now I’m not hobbling like an old lady at the end of the day anymore — I gained back about 10 pounds in the process. (I’m sure the holidays are probably the worst time of year to quit exercising, but it just happened that way.)

So it’s time to get motivated and get busy. Anyone out there really committed? I want to hear from you! Anyone feeling wishy washy about it but know they need to do something? I want to hear from you, too!

Ugh, I don’t even want to think of getting up before 5:30 to go work out. I’m in the wishy washy category on exercise. I KNOW I need to do it, but I really hate it.

Getting up early seems to be the ONLY way I’ll actually do it during the week. Since I can never predict when I’ll get off work — and it’s always dinner//getting the kids into bed time when I finally get home — I just have to force myself awake. Maybe we’ll have to search this year to find one thing you really actually will look forward to doing …

Okay, so I’ve checked out some Zumba videos from the library. I had them for 3 weeks and didn’t put them in my dvd player once, so I renewed them for another 3 weeks. Again, they didn’t hit my dvd player. I took them back to the library, waited a couple of weeks and checked them out again, it’s been 2 weeks and they have yet to go into the dvd player! I’d say I have a problem!

I went to Zumba at the gym this Saturday for the first time in a loooooong time. I’ve found that it can really vary, depending on the class, so I bet your videos might be the same way. Maybe your first step can be “previewing” and seeing which one you like best before you try it?

My walking buddy moved away 3 years ago and i’ve been a slacker ever since. Have tried to get moving…only to give up after a few days because I’m lonely. It’s amazing how much more fun “exercise” is when you have a partner.

I totally understand! I had a workout buddy, Felicia, about 10 years ago, and I still miss her. It’s hard to find someone to click with on the exercise front — especially if you’re a shy person like me. Maybe instead of walking you could try a class? It’s scary at first, but after you go a few times, people start to get to know you (and then notice when you don’t show up).
